Dave, a professional photographer with a passion for the artistic side of photography, once described as "an artist that uses a camera as his brush".
Coming from a background in the Broadcast tv field I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in image creation. I consider myself first and foremost as a people person to understand your needs, secondly a photographer to capture the image, and thirdly a person with the technical expertise to create the highest quality results.
But you say we ?
oh yes, my wife Gill, she keeps me in check and focused (no pun intended), is my best work critic, and an active business partner - she has also become a very good photographer herself so I am now getting worried !
What makes me a professional photographer ?
Many amateur photographers are capable of producing highly creative images. What makes a "professional" photographer is having the ability to use their knowledge and resources to create images that you desire on demand to make their living.
I also have full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance to protect my customers and my livelyhood.
What equipment do I use ?
That really doesn't matter, it's how you use it that counts and the technology should be largely invisible in any photo session. However I do believe in using the right tools for the job with no compromise in service and quality.
What's all this BIPP stuff ?
This stand for the British Institute of Professional Photographers, a uk based organization that recognizes and supports full time professionals worldwide. I am also the chairman of the Scottish Region of this organization .. for my sins.
...and the SWPP ?
This is a similar organization, the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers which is biased to this specific area of photography - I just couldn't decide between them.
