Dave, a professional photographer with a passion for the artistic side of photography, once described as "an artist that uses a camera as his brush".
Coming from a background in the Broadcast tv field I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in image creation along with management and customer skills.
I consider myself first and foremost as a people person to understand your needs, secondly a photographer to capture the image, and thirdly a person with the technical expertise to create the highest quality results.
But you say we ?
oh yes, my wife Gill, she keeps me in check and focused (no pun intended), is my best work critic, and an active business partner - she has also become a very good photographer herself so I am now getting worried !
What makes me a professional photographer ?
Many amateur photographers are capable of producing highly creative images. What makes a "professional" photographer is having the ability to use their knowledge and resources to create images that you desire on demand to make their living.
I also have full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance to protect my customers and my lively hood.
What equipment do I use ?
When folk ask 'what camera do you use ?' my answer is, "well, its black", its really not important. However I do believe in using the right tools for the job to get the right results whilst understanding the market that I work in.
What's all this BIPP stuff ?
This stands for the British Institute of Professional Photographers, a uk based organization that recognizes and supports full time professionals worldwide. I am also the chairman of the Scottish Region of this organization .. for my sins. Qualifications
...and the RPS ?
A rather different organization with the emphasis more on the photography and for the the more artistic side of the profession.
