Who's reading our mail?

Countrymousie's visit from the silicone-enhanced babes from Catalania made me think about the difference between snail mail and our CCW chat space. I had an email chat with Headmistress early on, about the question of privacy. I guess the bottom line is that there simply isn't any in a chat space or on a blog. That's probably alright with most of us because while we share some pretty personal stuff, most of us use blog names for ourselves and families to 'protect the innocent'. I listened to a program on CBC today - the topic was the internet. The guest reminded listeners that once something is on the internet it is 'out there' forever.
I really enjoy our chat space! It's like opening up a mailbox every day for the most interesting and entertaining letters. While we can all imagine everyone else's laptop or PC, I know we all get our snail mail by different means.
I thought you'd get a kick out of seeing where I get mine!

Hi Pondside, I love mail in all its forms. What I would really like is an ex-GPO letter box for our mail but they are quite expensive. My sister has one in her porch (GR) painted white. I'd like mine red. Our postman usually sticks our post between the gate and the hedge so he doesnt have to brave Yorkie! I prefer this - even if the post does get wet sometimes! I liked seeing where your snail mail comes to!

I must say it doesn't worry me but then i don't put private stuff out in public, well only un peus and Madame Grognonne and I am not sure they mind a lot!
Obviously I am aware that people like Sally, who runs her chateau must mind her tongue at all times in case some one gets the wrong impression, and I admire her discretion greatly, and that must be extremely hard, you also are very discreet about your job. But I am amazed sometimes at the depth of information some people give online.
I think perhaps I may be a paricularly private (paranoid me?)person as I personally shudder at the thought of revealing my identity to the world...let alone a photo of me and the family. Its not you lot I don't trust I just know how many people not of this group read the blogs, going on the stats counter on mine.
I think a great number of people here ares extremly brave and open!
Love your mail box reminded me of when I lived in OZ !!

Well thank you Un Peu for complimenting me on my discretion !! Obviously my blog is intended to lead people to my website and finally to Le Chateau ! Having said that though its terrific fun but I would never ever use my families real names nor divulge guests identities. His Lordship is of course His Lordship but you get my drift !!

I had a letter printed in the press once to which I referred to a Town Mouse and a Country mouse, and I could never be called timid so it was the name of choice. I will hold back a bit on the pics until I get my enlargements - only kidding!! Hope you liked the Great Dane pic!

I agree with you that there are worries about overall security. I would never put photos on, not personal ones anyway. Yes, we trust each other, but who else is out there??

We have an American type mail box - which sits in our porch - supposed to sit on a pole - but hasn't quite made it yet.
I guess the only way to be truly private is never leave the house and never go onto a computer, or make a phone call.
The thing about the internet is that it is so vast and so many billions of people are on it that only a tiny proportion look at us and most won't get us anyway.
We are only really interesting to each other. And even if we do divulge personal stuff - who are we anyway?

Yes, I agree Headmistress, but there is always danger about sadly and it is good thing to be reminded every now and then that there are others out there lokking in. The chances of anyone looking who matters are small but there is always the chance, so reasonable care should be taken.
