What think you all of this list?

An article about a list of 160 books for boys to promote more reading by 'working class' boys (their words), with a link to the 167 books on the list - either the list compiler got carried away or was not mathematically minded.

I for one was very surprised not to see Lord of the Flies or even Harry Potter, both eminently appealing to boys in my opinion, nor was there any Henry Treece, about the vikings, and why was the second Eragon book up there but not the first?

where did the list come from? sorry if being dim. all encouragement to read is good in my book but danger in thinking you can tell what might appeal. on safer ground with what is good (and might be hated).

Interesting reading. I think they need to realise that it is probably not the content of books that puts boys off but the enviromental influences, do they see the men in their homes reading or their friends reading being the biggest.

Also to leave of the most hyped author of this generation is farcical we are influenced by what is plugged in the media so boys will be too.

Henry Treece! Oh my....they were fabulous. Yes, strange list - they seem to go for a lot of second or third parts of trilogies/quartets - not just the Eragon one (soooo derivative but suppose it's fun) but also Garth Nix, Stuart Hill, William Nicholson, Philip Reeve, Anthony Horowitz, Michele Paver, Angie Sage, Jonathan Stroud, Lemony Snicket etc etc etc. Not quite sure if it's a brilliant idea to suggest Book Two or even Book Twelve in a series!!! Why not just name the series?
Still, quite a few here I haven't come across so will trawl.... and suppose it's a good idea to give suggestions - but why differentiate working class?
